Local Go For The Gold Gymnasts Win Big at Virginia Beach Event

WHIPPANY, NJ (April 14, 2026) — Go For The Gold (GFTG) gymnasts earned multiple awards across all events and age groups—including two all-around titles—at the Level 9 and 10 Region 7 Championships, recently held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, VA. Five athletes will now advance to the next level of competition, with Level 9 gymnasts heading to Eastern Championships in Savannah, GA, and Level 10 qualifiers competing at Nationals in Oklahoma City, OK in the coming weeks.

Hosted by the USA Gymnastics Region 7 chapter of the national USA Gymnastics Women’s Development Program, Region 7 includes Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. At the Level 9 Regional Championships, the top seven gymnasts in each age group qualify to compete at either the Eastern or Western Championships—each representing four regions and serving as the equivalent of a national championship at that level.

The Level 10 Regional Championships feature both a junior division (up to age 16) and a senior division (up to age 18). As the highest competitive level within the USA Gymnastics Development Program—just below elite—Level 10 gymnasts compete against top athletes from all eight U.S. regions. To advance to Nationals, gymnasts must first qualify at Regionals, earning top scores among a highly competitive field. The 2026 Level 10 Nationals will take place May 7–10 in Oklahoma City, OK.

Led by Head Coach Anne Meade (Woynerowski) and Coach Ivan Taskov, GFTG continues to build a strong national presence. While the program is no stranger to national-level competition, this marks the first year that five New Jersey gymnasts from GFTG will advance to Nationals and Eastern Championships.

“A testament to building a program takes time, but our gymnasts have shown grit, mental strength, team camaraderie, and hard work to get to this point,” said GFTG USAG Team Coach Anne Meade. She was inducted into the New Jersey Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2017, recognized for her passion, dedication, athlete development, and lasting impact on the sport.

“They show up every day ready to push themselves, support one another, and put in the kind of effort that builds not just great athletes, but strong, disciplined individuals,” Meade added.

Meade spent her early years as an elite gymnast in New Jersey, beginning at age five and a half and continuing through high school. She was a member of the U.S. National Team from 1991 to 1993, winning the Junior National Championship in 1991 and earning a gold medal at the Pan American Games in Havana, Cuba, that same year.

On the Level 9 side, four GFTG gymnasts across both junior and senior divisions will represent Region 7 at the Eastern Championships, taking place May 1–3 in Savannah, GA. Each athlete qualified by earning top scores within their respective age groups, securing their place among the region’s best.
