Here are the top 7 games of the week and predictions from the end of the week in Week 6 of the hockey season.
Peter’s Picks (19-9)
7. Fair Lawn (6-5) at West Orange (2-5) Friday, January 12, 8:30
Peter Fifoot: Michael Ferrante has had a special year for the Fair Lawn Cutters while scoring 28 points. Fair Lawn is on the verge of breaking it open.West Orange has also been pushing with resilience but I give a slight edge to Fair Lawn.
PICK: Fair Lawn 5-3
6. Johnson (1-8-1) at MOHOHA (1-11-1) Saturday, January 13, 5:45 LIVE ON GSS
Peter Fifoot: Johnson shows the epitome of toughness with their physical play. Their blueliners like Brayden Severini has been great making checks and also the point leader in the back end. However, Talon Muscolino has been a gem in goal and Dominic Landoffi fills the net for MOHOHA and they can roll four lines.
PICK: MOHOHA 5-2
5. Gil St.Bernards (5-2-1) at West Morris Central (8-1-1) Saturday, January 13, 6:15 LIVE ON GSS
Peter Fifoot: Luc Jansson continues to be an impactful goaltender between the pipes for Gil St. Bernards. Porter Clark has helped a young defense rise through the Haas division. Tommy Togno and Ben Barnhill have been goal scoring machines for the Wolfpack and they are on a mission and it is hard to pick against them.
PICK: West Morris Central 7-4
4. Cranford (6-3-1) at Livingston (4-7)
Saturday,January 13, 3:45
Peter Fifoot: The Livingston Lancers have had a whirlwind of a season so far. Zach Silva and Dylan Gibbs have led the goal scoring and Andrew Downing has defended the posts well as a quality goaltender. On the other side, Christian Adamski and Ryan Callahan have emerged as forces on a very good Cranford team surging in the NJIIHL.
PICK: Cranford 5-4-OT
3. Oratory Prep (1-8) at Nutley-Bloomfield (4-7) Friday, January 12, 6:30
Peter Fifoot: Oratory Prep, despite their record, have been definitely shining as a tough team. Tom LaFrance has really built up his team through the crease and throughout this season. Alex Benkert has been beyond unbelievable with 30 points already for NB and they have also played tough competition and have had a lot of success, they will do better with the adversity shown by Oratory Prep.
PICK: Nutley-Bloomfield 5-2
2. BSM (3-6-1) at KJS United (6-3) Friday, January 12, 4:40 LIVE ON GSS
Peter Fifoot: Not wanting to sound like a broken record but you cannot talk KJS United hockey without talking about Rylan Gibbons. The star goaltender is now at a .900 save percentage and has stopped 144 pucks. The Prunty brothers have led KJS to the best record in the division and the best for a MCSIIHL Co-Op. On the other side Jimmy Hathaway has led his BSM squad to a lot of success and Daniel Adams as well as Dylan Leonard have had a nice scoring touch. The true battle is Hathaway against Gibbons. I give the edge to the netminder, United keep rolling.
PICK: KJS United 4-1
1.Chatham (8-3) at Randolph (10-0-1) Friday,January 12, 5:45
Peter Fifoot: There are not too many matchups with the star power and significance in a hockey season as much as this one. The Randolph Rams are one of only two teams in the state yet to lose, the other being Tenafly and with Shane Melly as well as Vincent Crisafulli and Andrew George, the offense has shocked the world. Their blue line has somehow gotten better than perfect with their stifling performances recently. This is their toughest task however. The one offense that has seemed to be as unstoppable as the Rams, has been the forwards for Chatham. Since they started 0-2, they have only lost once including shutting out the magical West Morris offense. Matt Nacinovich, who has been an overtime hero has ignited the Cougars attack, as well as Thomas White and Luc D’Costa. Chatham has a great team in what looks like the battle for the Mennen Division, but right now hard to pick anyone against Randolph, Rams will continue to surge in the Game of the Week.
PICK: Randolph 8-5
