The first round in the non-public school tournament for boys hockey is here, and at big state sports we have our predictions for the first round predictions.
#8 Pope John @ #1 Don Bosco Prep
The Ironmen have gone really solid this season, and appear to be riding a tidal wave of momentum. Dean Tsokos Was nothing short of prime time in his performance against Saint Peters prep but now he will be called to play even better against the lions. For Pope John, it’s going to come down to their blue line, but I don’t know if they will be able to deal with the size and speed of Don Bosco.
Peter’s Pick- Don Bosco Prep 5-3
#5 Bergen Catholic @ #4 Christian Brothers Academy
Nick Desiderio really has been leading this Colts team, I also believe playing down south is going to really help Christian Brothers Academy. Defensively it will be tough for Christian brothers because ofMatt Maglio who has really been exploding offensively for the Crusaders. There is something though about this Colts team, with their speed and offensive capability, that I am quite fond of, I am going to go with Christian Brothers Academy.
Peter’s Pick- Christian Brothers Academy 4-3 OT
#6 Princeton Day @ #3 St. Augustine
Robert Romarino really has led this Hermits team, his 20 points have been more of a facilitator, and they have been able to score, as well as combined speed and physicality for a three prong attack. Princeton day provides that physicality, and it was on display with their win over Morristown–Beard, but the combination of speed, skill and size of St.Augustine will be too much for Princeton Day.
Peter’s Pick- St. Augustine 6-3
#10 Pingry @ #2 Delbarton
Pingry came away with an electric overtime win over Seton Hall Prep. The youth and speed of the Big Blue was showcased as well. This is a big mountain to climb though now, facing a very experienced Delbarton team, with their offense led by Dante Rodriguez. The Green Wave are riding a tidal wave(mind the bad pun) of momentum and it will coast them to a semifinal appearance on Wednesday.
Peter’s Pick-Delbarton 7-1
