TOP 5 SMALL SCHOOLS (Group I & II)

  1. Madison- The Dodgers are on a tear. They are on a five-game winning streak and won their first two games in the Morris County tournament (MCT) very convincingly. Evan Colao scored a game-high 19 points in Madison’s 53-39 quarterfinal win over Morris Knolls. Colao was clutch from the charity stripe as he went 7/10 on free throws. Madison will face Delbarton in a rematch of last year’s county final. This year the teams will play in the semifinals.
  2. Jefferson- The Falcons had a tough week. Jefferson lost a nail biter to Mendham 51-50 in the opening round of the MCT. After losing two games to Hanover Park and Mendham, Jefferson rebounded to defeat Mount Olive 45-39. Jeff Evans scored 14 points and made 3 three pointers.
  3. Vernon- The Vikings gained a lot of confidence this week. Vernon defeated Lenape Valley and Hackettstown in the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament (HWS). Alex Fessel led Vernon with 13 points and 3 steals against Hackettstown. 5th seeded Vernon will travel to play top seeded Phillipsburg in the semifinals.
  4. Hackettstown- The Tigers had a good week before falling to Vernon in the quarterfinals of the HWS Tournament. Hackettstown had won three straight before the loss. They demolished Wallkill Valley and Newton in their mini winning streak. Ryan Due dropped 20 points in both of those victories.
  5. High Point- The Wildcats won three of their four games this week. After a close 54-48 loss to South Hunterdon in the HWS First Round, High Point adjusted to win their next two games. Brayden Franko was locked in when High Point beat Dover 65-60. Franko scored 24 points while draining 7 3’s!

Honorable mentions: Hanover Park, Lenape Valley, Sussex Tech

TOP 5 LARGE SCHOOLS (GROUP III, IV, V & NON-PUBLIC)

  1. Delbarton- The Green Wave had an eventful week. Delbarton won both of their Morris County tournament (MCT)  games against Mount Olive and West Morris. The victory against West Morris in the Quarterfinal Round was revenge for a 67-65 loss to the Wolfpack earlier this week. Michael Van Raaphorst had a huge game against 7th seeded West Morris. Van Raaphorst led all scorers with 30 points and knocked down six three-pointers. Second seeded Delbarton will face third seeded Madison in the semifinals. These schools met last year in the MCT Finals.
  2. Morris Catholic- The Crusaders were cruising until they faced a hungry Chatham squad in the Quarterfinals of the MCT. Morris Catholic had dominated Montville 94-47 in the first round. Mattia Bacchelli was on fire against Montville. Bacchelli hit 8 3’s and scored 28 points.
  3. Chatham- The Cougars have been unstoppable. They are currently on a seven-game winning streak and are back in the playoff hunt. Chatham was able to come out on top in two close games at the MCT against Hanover Park and Morris Catholic. The win over Morris Catholic was huge because the Crusaders were the top seed and the No. 9th ranked team in the state. Chatham was the ninth seed. Michael MacAniff’s 25-point performance carried the Cougars to an upset win. Chatham will go up against fourth seeded Mendham in the semifinals.
  4. Mendham- The Minutemen have bounced back in emphatic fashion since losing to Delbarton on January 27th. Mendham is on a three-game winning streak. They hung on to defeat Jefferson 51-50 in the first round of the MCT. The Minutemen then beat Randolph 46-37 in the Quarterfinals. Kevin King was clutch in both games. King scored 18 and 21 points respectively. Mendham will play Chatham in the semifinals.
  5. West Morris- The Wolfpack had just defeated Delbarton 67-65 early in the week. Delbarton must have made some important adjustments to counter what West Morris did to them. West Morris lost to Delbarton 79-68 in the rematch at the Quarterfinals of the MCT. Michael Amador tried his best to keep the Wolfpack close. Amador scored 24 points and made all ten of his free throw attempts.

Honorable mentions: Morris Knolls, Parsippany Hills, Mount Olive
